Far Infrared Information and Release Form
Before your Sauna Session.......
Guidelines for Safe Use of the Far Infrared Sauna
Attire: Wear a bathing suit, or loose-fitting cotton shorts with tank top or a thin bathrobe.
Food: It is best to use the sauna between meals as to avoid nausea: not overly hungry with low blood sugar or overly full. If it has been more than 3 hours since your last meal, it is advisable to eat a small snack 45 minutes to one hour before using the sauna.
Water: On days you will be using the sauna, be sure to drink plenty of clean, filtered water. Drink 1 litre 45 min – 1 hour before entering the sauna and at least 1 litre afterwards. (Small bottled water with lid is permitted in our sauna, no other beverages allowed) Continue to drink plenty of water several hours after your session. A drink such as Gatorade or coconut water is recommended to replenish electrolytes after a heavy sweat or frequent visits.
Towels: We will supply you with 2 small towels, one for your feet and one to wipe the sweat off while you are in the sauna. Please bring at least one bath sheet/big towel to sit on/dry off with after your session.
If you forget your towel, we have large towels to rent for a $2.00 (10 point) charge.
Please be aware that we all want a clean and hygienic sauna. Please be conscientious about bringing, sitting on and wiping off with the necessary towels to keep your sweat from soaking into the cedar.
What to expect:
Most individuals do not feel many effects during the first few sessions since the time is brief and the temperature is lower. You may not necessarily perspire in your first few sessions as it may take the body a few sessions to “learn to sweat. Once we’ve adjusted your temperature and extended your session time, profuse sweating should take place. If at any time you feel ANY NEGATIVE SYMPTOMS or SIDE EFFECTS, REPORT them to the staff immediately. Negative symptoms are not limited to but may include feeling weak, dizzy, nauseated, exhausted, muscle cramps, spasms, cardiac arrhythmia, and headache. If symptoms persist, see your physician.
Do not put any lotions or oils on the body or face when using the sauna as this may block pores and hinder perspiration.
To avoid overheating and dehydration, tanning is not permitted within 4 hours before or after your session. For best results alternate tanning and sauna sessions every other day.
Havanatan is not responsible for any phone or electronic devices used in the sauna. The sauna manufacturer advises these could be damaged.

Temperature: Far infrared saunas are not as hot as conventional saunas. Generally, you will start at 50 Celsius (level 4) and you can gradually work up to a maximum 65 Celsius (level 9) if desired. I (Dawn) find if I stay at the 4-5 level the whole session, I sweat profusily.
Time: Most individuals will start with 15-20 minutes per session. You may choose to have the sauna warmed up before your session, but I (Dawn) find that I sweat even more if I warm up my body with the sauna. The warm up time of 5-10 minutes won't be included in the session cost.
After the initial couple beginner sessions, the time will be increased by increments of 5-10 minutes per session up to a max of 45 min. as long as if no ill effects are felt.
Report ANY negative symptoms you experience.
Frequency: While far infrared saunas can be used daily, it is acceptable for most people to use them three times/week. This can be discussed with Havanatan and an established schedule agreed upon.
